Bass Fishing Articles

The biggest question facing anglers in the Alabama Bass Trail North Division tournament on Lake Neely Henry this weekend is: what is the cold front going to do to the fishing?

Fishing is good right now, but things could get really interesting by the end of the week for the college anglers fishing in the Carhartt Eastern B.A.S.S. Conference Regional on Lake Norman, according to a University of North Carolina-Charlotte team member who hopes to score big on his home lake.

“I think they said last year Clarks Hill was where they had the most big fish turned in and I think you are going to see the same thing this week,” said local tournament angler Ray Diamond describing the fishing in Clarks Hill Lake a few days before the Oakley Big Bass Tour's Georgia Big Bass Classic.

Record crowds are expected at the weigh-ins for the Bassmaster Elite Series tournament on the Sabine River at Orange, Texas, this week – the kick-off for the 2015 Elite Series schedule – but the fishing might be another story, said veteran B.A.S.S. pro Davy Hite.

The Anglers Choice Invitational Tournament Trail moves to High Rock Lake near Lexington, N.C, Saturday for the second tournament of the 2015 season under the new single-division, two classics format.

“When we joined the B.A.S.S. Toyota Team Championship Series we were only recognized as one trail by them,” explained tournament director Chris Lucas. “Basically, we had to have one points system, so we don't call it the North Carolina Division and Virginia Division anymore. The guys who fish on Saturday and the guys who fish on Sunday, all the points go to the same standings.”

A lot of boats are expected for the Carolinas Bass Challenge North Carolina Division tournament on Lake Wylie Saturday and the fishing should be outstanding, said tournament director Brett Collins.

When Shane Linberger was a youngster who dreamed of becoming a professional bass angler he loved going to the local tackle shop in Denver, N.C., and listening to local fishing celebrity and television show host Jim Ledbetter talk fishing.

Under normal circumstances fishing in the Bassmaster Central Open on Ross Barnett Reservoir would be fairly simple: The bass in the lake typically spawn in late March, which means prespawn bass should be moving shallow and eager to bite this time around.

The Cabela's Collegiate Bass Fishing Series kicks off its 10th year this weekend with a record number of college anglers from 24 states taking their spring break to fish in the Cabela's Collegiate Big Bass Bash on Kentucky-Barkley Lakes.

Despite a winter storm this week that brought icy conditions – the second year in a row that winter weather has affected the first tournament of the year for the Anglers Choice Marine Tournament Trail – Saturday’s tournament on Smith Mountain Lake will go on as scheduled.
