Clarks Hill Fishing Heating Up In Time For Carolinas Bass Challenge Sc Division Qualifier

Less than 30 points separate the top four teams in the Carolinas Bass challenge South Carolina Division going into the final season qualifier on Clarks Hill this weekend – but the final is a double-points tournament so the Team of the Year Award is up for grabs, said tournament director Brett Collins.

“With Clarks Hill a double-points tournament ground can be made up – or lost – easily,” Collins said.

Heading into the tournament Wayne Frierson and Ronnie Mueller are leading with 1135 points, but Chris Marshal and Josh Gardner are just seven points back in second place. Gary Michaud and Doc McDaniel are third with 1115 points and Thomas and Clayton King are sitting 4th with 1106 points.

The CBC anglers should find Clarks Hill very receptive this weekend, Collins said.

“Fishing has been great on Clarks Hill this year with the winning bags averaging 20 to 22 pounds in tournaments recently,” he noted.

“The fish are still schooling, but some are already moving out to the ledges for the summer. The underwater islands at Clarks Hill could pay big dividends this weekend.”

Collins said the CBC is having a banner year, with a lot of new teams joining and membership numbers up over previous years. A big reason is the money involved, with the opportunity for a major payday at every tournament, he added.

“Multiple teams have won over $10,000 and the Skeeter Bonus Dollars the CBC offers on top of the Skeeter Real Money has been a huge addition,” Collins said. “This year we have been paying back the $5,000 at each event in three places – $2,500, $1,500 and $1,000.”

Collins said teams are also fishing for a chance to make the 2016 Bassmaster Classic.

“We will also send another big number of teams to the Bassmaster Team Championship on Lake Guntersville later this year. Last year we sent 22 teams and it looks to be about the same this year,” he said.

“After Clarks Hill we should have 300 teams in the South Carolina Division membership,” he said. “A team must fish three qualifiers to enter the S.C. Division Championship at Santee Cooper Sept. 19 and then to be eligible to fish the 2015 CBC Classic on Clarks Hill Oct. 23.”

And he is already planning for next year, which should be even bigger and better than this year, he said.

“We plan to have the schedule done early this year and have it out as quick as possible so anglers can start making their plans for next year.”
