Guy hangs in to win FLW Costa Series tourney on Rayburn

In a tournament that featured a cold front and, therefore, changing conditions, Ricky Guy was able to hold off long time tournament pro Lendell Martin Jr. by over a half-pound and win the FLW Costa Series tourney on Sam Rayburn Reservoir.

Due to contingency prizes, Guy’s payday was almost equal to that doled-out at a tour-level event – $95,300!

The usual techniques proved productive this week. Rat-L-Traps and jigs were popular lure choices. Some anglers reported that grass was not as prevelant as it sometimes is on the big lake. Buck brush held some quality fish.

Our friend David A. Brown was on hand to cover this one for FLW Outdoors and here’s his take on today’s final weigh in:

“Compared to his first two days’ limits of 25 pounds, 8 ounces and 24 pounds, 4 ounces, Ricky Guy was clearly disappointed with the 11-7 bag he weighed on the final day of the Costa FLW Series Southwestern Division tournament on Sam Rayburn Reservoir presented by Mercury.

“When the final tallies were stated, Guy’s three-day total of 61-3 carried the Humble, Texas, pro across the finish line with a 1-11 margin of victory over a charging Lendell Martin Jr. who sacked up the days largest limit worth 20-5.”
