Nixon, "I Quit" Pure Fishing; Other Pro Staff Cuts to Come
“Pure Fishing made me the most disgusting offer after all the support I gave them for 30 years. I quit."
- Larry Nixon
It looks as if Pure Fishing has hired a new marketing director who wants to take the company in a different direction.
Not sure what was wrong with the company's current direction, but the new guy apparently has little regard for the legends of our sport - the guys who made Pure Fishing successful to start with.
Larry Nixon posted on facebook:
“Pure Fishing made me the most disgusting offer after all the support I gave them for 30 years. I quit. Thanks to Gary Yamamoto and the people at Lucky strike they will not be missed. Great lures and good people to be my new sponsors!! Can't really say how much money I've won with a Senko the last few years but a bunch!!”
Word is that Pure Fishing did not even offer Gary Klein or Jay Yelas new contracts. And it looks as if they insulted Nixon with the offer they made him.
According to industry insiders, Pure Fishing isn’t done making cuts yet.
A couple of the pros are landing on their feet elsewhere, as has Nixon with Yamamoto and Lucky Strike. But in this economy, quality deals are hard to come by.
At least one of Nixon’s former Pure Fishing teammates is expected to ink a deal with a very solid company very soon.
Nixon noted that he will fish with Seaguar line and Dobyns rods next year. No Fenwick. No Abu-Garcia. No Trilene, Stren or Spider Wire.
