One Good Turn Deserves Another In Carolina Bass Challenge On Lake Wylie

Shane and Jerry Lineberger bested the field of 156 boats at Lake Hickory on May 17 with 19.51 lbs!

One good turn deserves another.

In May 2012 Tony Foster filled in for Robert Mixon in a Carolinas Bass Challenge North Carolina Division tournament on Lake Hickory to help Mixon and Steve Sink win the CBC points championship.

This year Mixon gets to return the favor because Sink, who is teamed with Foster in the North Carolina Division this year, can’t participate in the divisional final Saturday on Lake Wylie.

“I can’t fish Wylie,” Sink said. “My granddaughter graduates from high school Saturday and I can’t miss that.”

So Mixon will reciprocate that 2012 substitution.

“Maybe it will work out again,” Sink said. “They are going to have to catch 14 to 15 pounds. They need to get a top 10 finish, which would be great, but a top 5 would be better.”

Sink and Foster, who have won the Skeeter BONUS $5,000 twice this year, finished 63rd at Lake Norman on March 22, but have been at the top of their game ever since, finishing 1st at High Rock April 12, 7th at Lake Hickory May 17, and 5th at Falls June 7.

They also have apparently taken the points lead in the North Carolina Division. Although the results of the last tournament, which was held last Saturday on Falls Lake, have not yet been posted on the CBC website, and the points have not yet been updated, Sink and Foster appeared to have moved well ahead of other challengers with that 5th place finish.

The leading team going to Falls, Scott Sellers and Randy Childers, finished well down in the field Saturday, apparently leaving Sink and Foster at the top. At question is whether the Falls tournament was a double-points or single-points tournament, Sink said.

“We could have as much as a 16-point lead if it was single points and a 32-point lead if it was double points. If it was double points I know we have it, but it looks like the title is coming down to about a 4-team race.”

That will be decided Saturday on Lake Wylie, which was postponed from earlier this year because of a snowstorm, with a sub angler once again hoping to help clinch the points title.

This time Robert Mixon gets to return the favor.
