Xtreme Bass Series Results - Guntersville - Feb 26

The weather gave us a break with lows in the morning of 30 and highs in the mid 60s. Winds were nice at 10-15 sse. The weights were up as they have been all of Feb. What was really nice was that some of the money winners actually caught their fish on rattle traps. The winners, however, were using some form of umbrella rig.

Lake temps started around 50 and in the afternoon had climbed to around 53. I'm sure the fish are itching to go shallow, as we edge closer to the march full moon.

Today's top 5 finish went like this:1st pl. Donnie Mcelvoy and Hadley Coan with 28.76 lbs and a kicker fish of 7.18 lbs, taking home $1020. 2nd pl. Tony Parton and Brian Fomby with 28.12 lbs for $560 and had the big fish for the day at 8.04 lbs for another $270. 3rd pl. Danny Shell and Buster Land with 26.02 won $340, they had a 7.90 lber to help out their total. 4th pl. Mike Keener jr. and Mike Keener sr. had 21.92 lbs with a nice 7.04 lber earning $240. (Notice the pattern of kicker fish). 5th pl. Buddy Gross and James Milling had their best 5 equal 21.64 lbs.

All in all, what a nice turnout for our 1st event of the season, especially since we had to go the day after a bfl. Many of us were exhausted, since the wind the day before was brutal. Our payout today was based on 27 boats as 1 of our boats is the points winner of last year and does not pay entry, and the other boat, who is Derek Chambers. He is: "From Rifles to Rods and Reels", which takes veterans fishing. They come and go through the tournament experience just for the fun and do not fish for the money. Somewhat therapy as Derek states.
Lots of things happening this next month here at "The Bait, Tackle & Grill" @ Goose Pond. BFL on mar. 3rd, Rescue Squad Benefit tourney Mar.10th., the "Rat-L-Trap Classic" on Mar. 24th, 2nd Xtreme event, Mar. 25th. (That will be a busy weekend). The Big Bass Splash on Mar. 31st, another busy one. Looking forward to it all.

To all, Thank you and God bless.
